Chapter 23

"The Canadian Prime Minister will be holding her press conference aboard their orbital dry dock. Discovery will make the trip to Liwei where she expects to have a welcoming committee roll out the red carpet for her." Maggie read from her tablet.

"Of course she does." David held back a laugh. "Let the PM know that she is to wait on Liwei for the crew to come to her that evening, after I present them at the press conference."

"I'm sure she will be overjoyed by that plan." Maggie smiled while making a note. "Next, a shipment from Mars, of lab supplies, is on time to land on NALC tomorrow morning. Professor Fairbanks will be there to meet it."

"Make sure the area is clear. No reporters. That is sensitive equipment."

"Yes, sir. The last thing is that Captain Gholston has been notified he is to do a security sweep of the laboratory and that he will also head up the security detail for the press event. Is there anything else you want me to cover?"

"No. It sounds like you have it all in hand. Thank you."

"Prime Minister, Mr. Savion Prince from the UN, is waiting outside the office. He didn't have a scheduled meeting, but wanted to see if you had a moment. With the event planning in order, you are free the rest of the afternoon."

"That would be fine. Show him in on your way out."

"If you need anything, I will be at my desk for a few more hours."

"That's not needed. We'll have plenty of work to do for the next couple of days, clock out early."

"Thank you, sir. Have a good night, then." Maggie left. A few seconds later, Savion entered.

Savion's oversized smile made David suspicious of the reason for the visit.

"David, you look wonderful. How have you been?"

David reached out for a handshake and instead was pulled in for a hug. Savion leaned in and whispered in David's ear.

"You may want this room to be green."

David walked over to his desk and activated the room security system. The lights switched to a light green hue.

"Is everything ok, Savion? You have me concerned."

"Precautions, that's all, my friend. I come with news you need and I'm not sure who could listen in. You understand."

Savion casually sat in the visitor's chair in front of David's desk and motioned for David to sit.

"What information do you have?"

"I had a bit of an awkward discussion with the secretary general this afternoon. It appears the UN general council is surprised how fast you reversed your predecessor’s recommendation on the Canadian initiative. Seeing as how you are deeply invested in that project; they were asking me if an audit was inline."

Savion paused and sat relaxed in his chair. He wanted David to ask, but that would give him the upper hand, so David waited.

"I said no. That there was probably a perfectly good explanation for you taking such action. Now, I would feel better if I knew what that explanation was, and that is why I came over.
